Swan Class (Year 6)

Welcome to Swan Class 2021-2022!

Letters and Information 2021/2022

Home Learning

In preparation for secondary school, Year 6 are likely to have more home learning than they have been used to previously.

Home learning will be handed out every Wednesday and due back the following Monday

Home Learning includes:

1) Topic (weekly) - children have a selection of activities to choose from in the front of their books.
2) Maths (weekly) - a series of questions which relate to lessons through the week.

3) Spellings (weekly) - children will be given a set of spellings weekly to practice and will be tested on their understanding of year 5 and 6 common exception words every Wednesday.

4) Grammar - occasionally, children will be set an online grammar-based activity via SPAG.com rather than spellings to consolidate their learning (more common in Spring term).

5) Reading - as Y6 pupils, we are now broadly independent readers, therefore reading journals will be referred to weekly unless it has been identified that they need further support. However, please encourage your child to read as much as possible at home to build a love of reading and fill in their journals whenever read with at home.

If a child forgets their work, without a note from home, they are expected to miss part of their playtime. However, of course, if they are struggling with any aspect, they can always ask for help and accommodations will be made where necessary.
