Spring Term Topic
Welcome to Puffin Class
Spring Term 2019
Dear parents and carers,
What a wonderful start to the year. The children have all come in and settled extremely well. Their manners and listening skills and fabulous and so first of all I must say ‘Thank you’ for having such polite children. I am excited to have the opportunity to teach your child and I really hope that they continue to be excited and ready to learn.
Not all children will be the same and each child will progress at different rates.
There is a lot to cover in each subject and so I would really appreciate it if you could support your child’s home learning. This will include their home reading books as well as: word rockets, occasional mathematics and topic related activities. There will be ‘Going for Gold’ stickers for all children who return home learning on time. If your child fills a full row of stickers, they will be awarded a ‘Going for Gold’ certificate. Very exciting!
Library books will be changed on Mondays and so all children should return their books on time. Sometimes things crop up and we are unable to change them but we will do so as soon as we can.
Home reading books will be sent home but please make sure that the children bring their books into school every day. Any opportunities to read with the children are taken. When they have finished a book, and read it with an adult at school, they can exchange it for a new one. Comprehension is a big part of reading and so discussing the book is very important.
In a change to our timetable, the children will this half term have Gymnastics with Onside Coaching followed by handwriting practice on Monday afternoons .
On Tuesday afternoons we will have P.E & regular Kids Marathon throughout the week. Children should have all of their kit labelled and in a P.E bag.
There are boxes in the classroom for named water bottles. I would really like all children to have a bottle of water to sip on through the day to keep hydrated. Please do not send in juice or any other drink.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask at the end of the day or arrange a time for a chat.

Online Safety Update
In our online safety lessons this half term, Year One focussed on how to search the internet and how to stay safe when online. They learnt about all the amazing places that could be visited on the internet, but discussed only visiting places that are just right for us.
Please take a look at the Family Tip sheets and Activity sheets that support the lessons covered in school.
